Pop Team Epic Unveils New Liquor Collaboration Ads with a Unique Twist

One of the most distinctive comedy anime series of the last decade is definitely Pop Team Epic. The show is known for its innovative approach to voice acting, with Popuko and Pipimi being portrayed by approximately 48 different voice actors throughout the series. This unusual concept helped the series gain significant attention and maintain its popularity. Now, Popuko and Pipimi are featured in a new collaboration with the German liquor producer Kleiner Feigling.

The collaboration between Pop Team Epic and Kleiner Feigling was announced unexpectedly, as neither Pop Team Epic’s creator Bkub Okawa, the anime, nor Kleiner Feigling provided any prior notice. However, four commercials featuring Popuko and Pipimi launched on Kleiner Feigling Japan’s YouTube channel on August 1. The commercials are divided into two sets, each with two variations: one set takes place in a bar, and the other in a back alley, with different voice actors for each scenario.

In the bar-themed commercials, Popuko is shown sitting at the counter, receiving a drink from Pipimi, who explains about Kleiner Feigling. The scene transitions to a club-like party atmosphere before ending with a silent toast between the characters.

The back alley commercials depict Popuko as being shot and attempting to smoke a cigarette. Pipimi offers her a cigarette and then a mini-bottle of Kleiner Feigling. As in the bar commercials, the scene turns into a club-like party.

Both sets of commercials retain the absurd humor characteristic of Pop Team Epic and feature different voice actors for each variation. The voice actors’ identities have not been disclosed, but Ctraum, Kleiner Feigling’s Japanese distributor, has hinted that viewers should try to guess who they are.

Additionally, Kleiner Feigling is offering a special Pop Team Epic-themed box set, which includes two sets of five flavors, totaling ten mini-bottles: Original, Coco Biscuit, Blueberry, Wild Berry Tonic, and Red Berry Sour. Each box also includes one of three Pop Team Epic rubber keyholders, chosen at random. The box set became available on August 1 at Don Quijote stores and Amazon Japan. Note that Amazon Japan requires buyers to be at least 20 years old (the legal drinking age in Japan) and may charge import fees, taxes, and customs duties. Please check local laws regarding alcohol consumption and drink responsibly.
