Anime NYC Screens World Premiere of Terminator Zero Anime, Hosts Staff

On Wednesday, Anime NYC announced that this year’s convention will feature the world premiere of Terminator Zero, an anime series from Skydance Animation and Production I.G. The screening will take place on August 24 at 7:30 p.m. EDT on the convention’s main stage. Attendees will also have the chance to hear from the anime’s director, Masashi Kudo, product design coordinator Haruka Watanabe, and showrunner, executive producer, and writer Mattson Tomlin.

Terminator Zero is set to premiere globally on Netflix on August 29.

The series features Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator, André Holland as Malcolm Lee, Rosario Dawson as Kokoro, Sonoya Mizuno as Eiko, and Ann Dowd as The Prophet.

Mattson Tomlin, known for his work on Project Power and The Batman II, serves as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance are also executive producers. Masashi Kudo directs the series at Production I.G.

The eight-episode series is set in the Terminator universe but introduces new characters. According to Netflix, the story unfolds as follows:

In 2022, a prolonged war between human survivors and machines continues. Back in 1997, the AI Skynet becomes self-aware and initiates a war against humanity. Amidst this conflict, a soldier is sent back in time to alter humanity’s fate. Arriving in 1997, she must protect scientist Malcolm Lee, who is developing a new AI system to counter Skynet’s impending threat. As Malcolm grapples with the ethical implications of his work, he is pursued by a relentless assassin from the future, impacting the lives of his three children.

The series was first ordered in 2021, and a teaser was released in November 2023.

Anime NYC 2024 will be held from August 23-25 and will occupy the entire main building of the Javits Center for the first time.
